Help us welcome Allie, our newest instructor, to the Pure Movement team! You’ve seen her around the studio and now she’s starting her instructor training! We get to pick Allie’s brain and learn more about her Pilates journey and what to look forward to in her style of teaching.
What drew you to mindful movement?
I’ve always loved movement – ever since I was a kid I’ve been on the move. At some point, probably diving headfirst into a fast-paced career, I realized I had just grown apart from movement and I wanted it back! I had also undergone surgery that left me feeling awkward and uncoordinated. More than just moving, I wanted my relationship and connection with my body to improve and I wanted to heal and strength train in a safe way. Mindful movement through Pilates practice helped me rediscover the strength, grace, and purpose of movement.
What’s your favorite thing about the Pilates community, both here and throughout?
My favorite thing about the Pilates community is their joy for the practice, teaching and learning, and supporting each other. Especially in 2020, our Pilates family has helped raise the spirits of so many of us disconnected and isolated. Pilates and our community continue to connect us all through the joy of movement.
Do you have a favorite exercise or Pilates principle?
My favorite Pilates principal is breath, and I love to practice it with a restorative, lovely mermaid stretch.
The Pilates breath always connects me back to the exercise I’m working on, helping me focus and giving power to motion. Waistline toning and stretching – you can’t beat that combination!
What are some of your favorite places and things to do in Fort Wayne?
I love finding things to do in Fort Wayne!! I’ve had to get a little more creative this year, but I love taking spur-of-the-moment hikes at local parks. Foster Park is one of my favorites – I like to see the flowerbeds changing for the seasons. Fort Wayne also has so many great, local restaurants and food trucks, and I love getting breakfast on a Saturday morning at the YLNI and Fort Wayne Farmers Markets. I take all my out-of-town friends and family out whenever they visit. If I’m not doing things outdoors, I am a fan of a good Netflix binge.
To find a good life balance, what do you do?
A good life balance is always a work in progress. Balance is finding just the right sprinklings of friends, family, career, and personal growth. Our lives are like a workout flow – you need to pay attention and give a little love to each part of your body just like each aspect of your life needs time.
